PDFs are great for sharing documents exactly as they look, but that fidelity makes the text hard to reuse β especially when the PDF is a scan or an image-based page. Our PDF to text converter uses optical character recognition (OCR) to read the page and return clean, editable plain text you can copy, search, and paste anywhere. There is no software to install and no account to create.
The converter defaults to a formatted mode that preserves line breaks and paragraph structure, so the output reads much like the original document. It supports roughly 12 languages, recognizing accented characters and common non-English text alongside standard English.
How to convert PDF to text
- Open the PDF to text converter and drop your
.pdffile onto the upload area, or click to browse. - Select the language that matches the document text.
- Click Convert to run the OCR engine over the page.
- Review the extracted text in the preview and fix any minor errors.
- Copy the result or download it as a
.txtfile.
Single-page PDFs convert in seconds; longer or image-heavy documents may take a little more time.
Why use this tool
It is free with no sign-up, no watermark, and no daily limit. Privacy comes standard: your uploaded PDF is processed and then automatically deleted from our servers, which matters when documents are confidential. Whether your file already contains a text layer or is a pure image scan, the OCR engine reads the page and gives you usable text.
Need a different output format? Send the same file to PDF to Word for an editable document, PDF to Excel for tabular data, or use Scanned PDF to Text when your PDF is made entirely of scanned images.
Tips for best results
If your PDF is a scan, the quality of the original scan drives accuracy β 300 DPI or higher with good contrast works best. Straighten skewed pages and remove smudges where you can. Clear, standard fonts read more reliably than decorative ones, and simple single-column layouts convert more cleanly than dense tables.
